Teachers
Teachers are to be graduates of a bachelor’s program from a regionally or nationally accredited college. Teachers will meet one of two preferred profiles:
- Profile A: Bachelor of Science in Psychology with emphasis in working with students with disabilities, preferably direct training in Autism or Autism-related educational training (Applied Behavioral Therapy, etc.). Candidates should be continuing their education and be attaining either a Masters degree in a related field, a degree in Education, or State certification in teaching. Salaries will reflect the acquisition of additional credentials.
- Profile B: State certified ESE teacher with emphasis in Autism or Autism-related educational training. ESE teachers will be used in a lead capacity providing educational leadership for a team of teachers within the program. Focus will be placed on using ESE strategies within the classroom to approach the various levels of learning and for providing adequate documentation of services. Lead teachers’ salaries will reflect the additional credentials and responsibilities.
Teaching Assistants
The teaching assistant will facilitate not only academic learning, but also individualized therapy as required. Teaching Assistants will meet one of two preferred profiles:
- Profile A: Associate of Science degree as an Occupational Therapist Assistant. This type of assistant will allow for on-going activities that address fine and gross motor skills issues that are prevalent among autistic students, integrating the activities with the academic day. Classrooms with OT Assistants are required to have a separate lesson plan for the OT activities within the classroom, and the OT assistants are required to address students on an individual basis in addition to the class activities.
- Profile B: Certified or degreed in the medical field as a CNA, Home Health Technician, or other such designation or experience in working with students who are disabled. Preference will be given to those with experience working with children.
